Malik Hooker Player Profile

PLAYER PROFILE:

Malik Hooker is a safety for the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League. Malik grew up in Western Pennsylvania and only played two years of high school football in New Castle, PA. Although, he only played two years of high school football, Malik was clearly the best player on his team. As a Senior, he was named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Male Athlete of the Year! After his tremendous Senior season, Malik was offered a scholarship to Ohio State University and jumped at the chance to be a Buckeye. He redshirted his first year at Ohio State as he still had a lot to learn about the safety position. He played in all 13 games for the Buckeyes in his second year, primarily as a special teams' player and back-up safety. It was in his third year at Ohio State where he really separated himself. He became the full-time starter at free safety and recorded two interceptions in his first game as a Junior. He followed that up by being named a 1st-Team All-Big Ten Selection as a Junior! After his third year with the Buckeyes, Malik decided to forgo his last year in college and declared for the 2017 NFL Draft! Although he wasn't able to participate in the NFL combine due to an injury, NFL teams and scouts were salivating over Malik and saw him as a cornerstone player for their defense. Malik would end up being selected in the 1st Round (15th overall) by the Indianapolis Colts! During his Rookie season, Malik split time at the safety position and ultimately played in 7 games as a Rookie, recording 3 interceptions, 22 tackles, and 6 pass deflections. He followed-up his Rookie season by having two great seasons with the Colts in 2018-2019. During those two seasons, Malik recorded 91 tackles, 4 interceptions and 7 pass deflections. After getting hurt in 2020 with the Colts, Malik signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys where he immediately became a stalwart in their secondary. In 2021 & 2022, Malik started 31 games and recorded 99 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 5 pass deflections for the cowboys. He followed that up in 2023 by recording 50 tackles, 3 pass deflections, & 1 forced fumble. Malik will look to continue being a strong part of the Cowboys secondary in 2024! We are extremely excited welcome Malik back to our camp in 2024 for the second straight year! Your chance to meet Malik Hooker and other members of the Dallas Cowboys is July 9th-12th at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. Don't miss out!
