PLAYER PROFILE:
Jonathan Hankins is a Defensive Tackle for the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League. Hankins grew up in Michigan and initially played offensive guard in high school as a Freshman before switching to the defensive line his sophomore year. It turned out to be a wise decision as Jonathan became a wrecking ball along the defensive line for his high school team from his sophomore through Senior seasons. Jonathan was ranked as a 3-star prospect as a Senior and regarded as the 20th best prospect in the state of Michigan. He wanted to attend his hometown school, Michigan State, but never received an offer from them. He ended up committing to one of their biggest rivals, the Ohio State Buckeyes. As a Freshman in college, Jonathan earned a rotational spot along the Buckeyes defensive line and recorded 16 tackles and one sack as a Freshman. He really started to make his mark as a Sophomore, where he earned the starting defensive tackle position and recorded 67 tackles and 3 sacks. He followed that up with an even better Junior season, where he was chosen as a First Team All-Big Ten Conference selection and as a First Team All-American! Jonathan decided to forgo his final collegiate season and declared for the 2013 NFL Draft, where he would be selected by the New York Giants in the second round (49th overall). He spent his Rookie season as a rotational pass rusher for the Giants before breaking out in his second season. In his second season, Jonathan recorded 51 tackles and 7 sacks and was named a First Team-All Pro at defensive tackle. After spending two more seasons with the Giants, Jonathan signed a 3-year, $30 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts and spent the next two seasons with the Giants before being released. Jonathan has now found a new home with the Dallas Cowboys and we are extremely excited to have him with us at camp this July! Through 10 NFL seasons, Jonathan has recorded 376 tackles, 14.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 10 pass deflections.
