PLAYER PROFILE:
Adrian Phillips is a safety for the New England Patriots in the National Football League. Adrian grew up in Garland, TX and was a standout high school player. He played both sides of the ball and was ranked among the Top 150 high school prospects as a Senior. He decided to stay home and play for his hometown team, the Texas Longhorns in college. He would spend four years with the Longhorns and played in 50 games over his collegiate career. He recorded 206 career tackles in college and was named a 2013 All-Big 12 Honor Mention. He was also a team captain in 2013 as a Senior. Although, he had a strong career at Texas, many pro scouts didn't see a future for him in the NFL. He would go undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, but was quickly signed by the San Diego Chargers. He would spend most of his Rookie year on the Chargers practice squad. He recorded one tackle and appeared in three games as a Rookie. Things didn't go much better in his 2nd season as he failed to see the field for the Chargers. However, everything changed in his third season with the Chargers. Adrian came into camp with a new physique and quickly earned the back-up safety role for the team. He would end up playing in 14 games during the 2016 NFL season and recorded 38 tackles, 3 pass deflections, and an interception. Adrian would post very similar numbers again in 2017 as the back-up safety. Before the 2018 season started, Adrian re-signed with the Chargers and the coaching staff assigned him to a special teams role. That decision would end up being fruitful, as Adrian recorded his best season in 2018. Not only did Adrian play in all 16 games as a part-time starting safety, but he also became a special teams ace and recorded 94 tackles, 9 pass deflections, one forced fumble and one interception. It was his work on special teams though that gave him recognition. He was name a pro-bowler and a first-team All-Pro for his Special Teams performance! He would spend one more year with the Chargers in 2019, continuing to be a special teams ace before signing with the New England Patriots as a free agent in 2020. He quickly became a starting safety for the Patriots and a standout Special Teams player, something Head Coach Bill Belichick covets. Adrian recorded three interceptions during his first two seasons with the Patriots and earned another contract extension with the team in 2022! We can't wait to have Adrian Phillips at camp with us in 2024! His heart and work ethic is unmatched. Your chance to meet Adrian and other members of the New England Patriots is July 18-21st at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell! Don't miss out!
