PLAYER PROFILE:
Kyle Dugger is a safety for the New England Patriots in the National Football League. Kyle actually excelled as a basketball player in high school and had plans of playing Division-1 basketball. That all changed during his Senior year of high school when his high school's head football coach asked him to play for the football team. He quickly fell in love with the game of football and became the team's best defensive player. Since he only played one full season as a starter, Kyle was extremely under-recruited, but did receive a scholarship offer from Lenoir-Rhyne University, a Division-II school. He spent his freshman year redshirting, so that he could learn how to play the safety position in college. That redshirt season paid off, as Kyle became an immediate starter his second year at Lenoir-Rhyne. Kyle would go on to be a 4-year starter for Lenoir-Rhyne and turned down multiple offers to transfer to a Division-1 school. He remained loyal to the University that first gave him a chance. During his Senior season, Kyle was not only awarded the Cliff Harris Award, given to the best small-school defensive player in the country, but he also returned two touchdowns as a punt returner, showing his versatility. Kyle was also invited to the Senior Bowl, where scouts quickly praised him for his speed and instincts. He showed enough during the Senior Bowl and his pro-day, that he was selected in the second round by the New England Patriots in the 2020 NFL Draft! Kyle spent his Rookie year as a rotational secondary piece for the Patriots before becoming a full-time starter in 2021. During his second season, Kyle recorded 92 tackles, 5 pass-deflections, and 4 interceptions as the Patriots starting safety. He followed that up with an even better season in 2022, where he recorded 78 tackles, two interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns! Kyle will continue to be a foundational piece in the Patriots secondary and we can't wait to have him with us this July!
