Who's Going to Camp?
Thursday, June 9, 2011
Sports International gives campers a chance to learn from the men that are participating in the greatest football league in the world, the NFL. Over the course of our camps, participants receive focused instruction and demonstration from the professionals. With camps right around the corner, Sports International would like to showcase some of the players who will be leading football camps this summer.
Joining the Ben Leber Camp at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN from June 22nd-25th are current Viking Asher Allen and former Viking Pat Williams. Williams, a veteran who recently retired after 15 NFL seasons, was a three-time All-Pro selection from 2006-2008. On the other hand, Allen, the Vikings current starting cornerback, is going to be in his third year in the league. He was selected by Minnesota in the third round of the 2009 NFL draft from the University of Georgia.
A large NFL contingent joins Brian Orakpo at his camp at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA from June 26th-29th. This group includes Danny Smith, Lorenzo Alexander, Fred Davis, Anthony Armstrong and Chris Wilson. Danny Smith is the current special teams coach for the Redskins, and often cited as a top-five special teams coach in the NFL. Alexander is the current Redskins special team's captain who is known for his versatility, playing eight positions in his six year NFL career. Davis, a tight end for the Washington Redskins, was a second round draft pick out of the University of Southern California. He became the first USC player to win the Mackey Award for the nation's best tight end in 2007. Armstrong, a wide receiver and Wilson, a defensive end, are both journeymen who played in different football leagues before joining the NFL. Wilson played for the British Columbia Lions while Armstrong played for the Dallas Desperados. The two joined the Redskins in 2007 and 2009 respectively.
At the Jeremiah Trotter camp in Wayne, PA, Moise Fokou and Jamar Chaney will also join campers. This camp, which runs from June 27th-30th, will be held at Valley Forge Military Academy. Born in Cameroon, Fokou was selected in the seventh round by the Eagles in the 2009 NFL draft and won the starting strong-side linebacker position that year. Chaney is another rising NFL star, who was selected by the Eagles in the seventh round at the 2010 NFL draft. He is expected to start at the middle linebacker position for Philadelphia.
The Lawyer Milloy Camp, which takes place June 28th-July 1st at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington will be welcoming Roy Lewis as well as NFL great John Kitna. Lewis is the Seahawks current special teams captain as well as an often-used slot cornerback. He was also selected as the Seahawks Man of the Year in 2010 for his charitable and humanitarian work in the community. Kitna returns as a camp coach to the team who first signed him as an undrafted free agent in 1997. Kitna's NFL career spans over 10 years and four different NFL teams. The experience that he brings to share with campers is tremendous.
